Can you get a Renault Twizy in USA?

Twizys aren’t sold in the United States for two obvious reasons: Renault hasn’t sold cars here since 1987, and the Twizy doesn’t make any sense on American roads (our cities are too spread-out, our roads too fast, and our drivers too easily distracted.) That’s what makes this one such a mystery—how did it get here?

Insurance groups

The Renault Twizy falls into insurance group 11, which is surprisingly high, considering entry-level Ford Fiesta versions start from group 4. The Twizy’s obvious lack of safety kit may contribute to this rating.

Why is Renault not sold in America?

They are not sold in the U.S. because their market share would not be large enough compared with sales in the rest of the world to make it economically profitable for them to build cars specifically for the U.S. market that meet the U.S. requirements for emissions and safety standards.

Is Twizy allowed on the highway?

As a quadricycle, Twizy is not authorized to drive on highways. This electric vehicle with its compact build is designed for the urban environment. Fast roads and highways are not its thing! Also, another reason why Twizy is incompatible with driving on the highway is its maximum speed limit of 80 km/h.

The Twizy comes with Renault’s warranty package for up to three years – unlimited mileage during the first 24 months, followed by a further year limited to a total mileage of 60,000. The pack also includes three years roadside assistance.

About Renault Twizy

The Renault Twizy URBAN is a two-seat electric car designed and marketed by Renault and manufactured in Valladolid, Spain. In March 2012, the Twizy was released to the French market, followed a month later by several other European countries. The Twizy was the top-selling plug-in electric vehicle in Europe during 2012. Twizy is powered by a 17hp (12kW) electric motor, with a smooth one-speed automatic transmission and a light and compact lithium-ion battery pack. Charging the batteries, couldn’t be simpler. Open the front flap, pull out the cable, and plug into any 230V socket. As with the entire Z.E. range, on the dashboard you will see remaining battery life information, so you’ll always know where you stand.Twizy is gifted when it comes to looking after you. Its Renaultsport-developed tubular frame protects you from impacts, and four disc brakes mean true active safety. Combined with an amazing turning circle, Twizy is not only a fun vehicle to drive but a really responsive one too. For passive safety, four-point seatbelts and a driver’s airbag have never before been seen on a vehicle that’s so agile and easy to handle.

Safety Ratings

The range of Renault Twizy

Renault Twizy’s range can reach up to 80 kilometers of real use. Twizy’s energy consumption, and therefore the range of this electric vehicle, not only depends on the conditions (gradient of the road, outside temperature etc.) but also significantly on the style of driving. Eco-driving can save up to 60% of electric range compared to a more “brusque” style. Onboard, the econometer indicates energy consumption in real-time, enabling the driver to optimize their Twizy’s range.
