What’s New for the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV?

The Chevrolet Silverado EV is an all-new electric truck. The Silverado EV comes with some familiar favorite amenities such as Super Cruise technology; a driver assist safety mechanism that Chevy recently introduced. However, the Silverado is also an all-new truck in many respects, including the fact that it is the first electric-powered Silverado. The Silverado EV is based on a new battery platform, and it can be charged in multiple ways at home or on the road. Maximum trailering capability with the Chevy is 10,000 pounds, and it has a payload of 1,300 pounds.

RST First Edition

The RST production run begins with the RST First Edition. In short, it’s an RST that has every option box ticked. We don’t know the extent of those options, but Chevrolet says it will be priced at $105,000. With destination included, that’s a whopping $106,695.


2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Horsepower

Generating 510 total horsepower, the Ultium electric powertrain propels the 2024 Silverado EV. When equipped with the default powerplant, this all-new Chevy truck could tow 8,000 pounds. The fleet-oriented WT model will be capable of towing 20,000 lb. Tapping into 664 hp, the RST model can pull a 10,000-lb trailer. When equipped with the 24-module lithium-ion battery, this all-new Chevy truck offers an estimated range of 400 miles. The unique WOW Mode maximizes the vehicle’s acceleration on paved roads. Additionally, the four-wheel steering system and motor-driven e4WD system deliver segment-leading handling.

Like the battery pack capacity and range, charging parameters and output figures of the Silverado EV Trail Boss can be deduced from what GM is preparing for the other variants. For the Silverado EV WT and Silverado EV RST, GM has confirmed charging input of up to 350 kW and V2L power offload of up to 10.2 kW. The former’s powertrain will provide 510 hp and 615 lb-ft, while the latter’s powertrain will produce 664 hp and more than 780 lb-ft.

What to expect with the Silverado EV Trail Boss

We haven’t seen much about the 2024 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss EV yet, but we caught a glimpse of it. The Trail Boss has a revised lower bumper with tow hooks and more grille space. This is probably to help the truck draw in more air to enhance the ability to cool powertrain components. 

The gasoline-powered Silverado Trail Boss is in the middle of the pack for off-roading. It does have a locking rear differential, a heavy-duty suspension, and all-terrain tires, though. The Silverado EV Trail Boss might be better equipped by borrowing features from the GMC Hummer EV. 

It’s safe to expect a lifted suspension, air springs, locking differentials, the Hummer EV’s unique crabwalk feature. We’ve seen a teaser about the Silverado EV’s four-wheel steering mode that could be similar. 

The Rivian R1T has uses a semi-active loading-leveling air hydraulic hybrid system. It can raise the R1T to have about 15 inches of ground clearance. We’re not sure how tall the Silverado EV Trail Boss will be yet, but the Hummer EV has a maximum ground clearance of 15.9 inches. 

While the Rivian R1T doesn’t have traditional off-roading modes such as hill descent control, setting the brakes in regen mode helps to control its speed. The GMC Hummer EV has a Terrain Mode that offers one-pedal driving. 

Other Silverado EV Models

Will there be an LT, LTZ, Custom, or High Country? Chevrolet hasn’t confirmed specific trims, but the automaker says more trims are coming. We also know an HD version is in the works. Silverado EVs will be offered at numerous price points from $50,000, $60,000, $70,000, and $80,000. In short, expect much more in terms of choices for the Silverado EV as we head into the electric future.
