Is free money really free?
You’re understandably skeptical. To clear any open questions you have, we’ll first clarify what we mean by free money. Free refers to any cash bonus or rewards you receive for signing up for and using a service.
It’s as simple as receiving a welcome bonus of $10 when you sign up for a new savings account.
Or it’s the redeemable points you accumulate for sharing your opinion with a company. So this money is absolutely free in the sense that you’re not trading hours of hard labor in exchange for it, but instead, you’re receiving additional benefits while you perform your day-to-day activities.
Now that we covered the meaning of free money, let’s get into ways to get real money fast!
More Cash Back Sites
While there are many ways to get free money, Cashback sites appear among the best options. And while we’ve mentioned a few earlier, here are even more options.
BeFrugal is a great cashback site that starts you off with $10 for signing up. But, you can lose the bonus if you don’t achieve $10 within the first year.
On top of the bonus, it also offers some of the highest rates in the industry. For instance, you can earn as high as 40% cash back at over 5000 stores. How great is that?
Also, when you sign up and shop through BeFrugal, you will get access to exclusive coupons and deals from your favorite stores. And that’s not all!
If you refer a friend who makes a qualifying purchase, you will earn a $10 bonus. And your friend will also get $10 just for signing up! Talk about a win-win situation!
However, to receive your referral bonus, the referred friend has to achieve at least $10 cashback.
BeFrugal is an excellent site for saving money on your online and in-store purchases. It’s also one of the best when it comes to sharing wealth with its members. And, it’s a free app to download.
34. Mr. Rebates
Do you want great cashback? Join Mr. Rebates, and get just that! The platform offers some of the highest cashback rates in the industry. For instance, you can earn up to 40% cashback at over 2000 stores.
The percentage of the cashback depends on the store or the product you are buying. So, don’t be amazed when you earn more cashback in some stores or products than in others.
And the cashback is not all that Mr. Rebates has to offer. It also has a fantastic referral program. For every friend that you refer and who signs up, you will earn 20% of their earnings for a lifetime. Now, this is the best source of free passive income.
Read some of the best passive income books to get a better understanding of passive income and how it helps.
To make things even better, Mr. Rebates has a low minimum payout limit. You only need at least $10 to make your withdrawal. This means that you can withdraw your earnings anytime and anywhere using PayPal. That’s quite convenient!

3. Get assistance with utility bills
Are you struggling to keep up with your heating or phone bills? If so, then you may qualify for programs like:
- The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program that covers the heating and cooling costs for low-income families.
- The Lifeline program is an income-based program that provides discounted phone and internet services.
12. Cut Your Insurance Cost: $489+ Per Year
Want to know the dirty secret of the car insurance industry?
Here it is: your cars are worth less every year due to depreciation, but you keep paying the same amount!
Check out Insurify for a quick and painless quote process to find the best rates on car and home insurance. It’ll take just a few minutes (you can even do it on your phone) and users save an average of $489 per year!
Once you do — or even if you’re not ready to switch insurance providers — create a free account with Marble.
This is the first and only “rewards program” for insurance. Marble lets you sync your home, renters, auto, and pet policies in one dashboard, and then pays you up to 5% cash back on your premiums.
Since you have to have many of these coverages already, getting paid for them is like getting free money.
9. Look for childcare assistance
For most households, childcare puts a significant dent in their expenses. Depending on where you reside, this can vary. But, it can range anywhere from $200 to $600 per week!
And, it’s anticipated that affordable childcare will become a more significant issue following the COVID-10 pandemic. Data from the Care.com COVID-19 Child Care Survey shows that “More than half (52%) of the parents surveyed say they anticipate that the cost of child care will be higher than before COVID-19, and nearly that many (47%) are more concerned about the cost of child care now than they were before the pandemic.”
The Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF), which is administrated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, may help relieve this burden. It can cover the cost of child care for children under 13, depending on your income. The CCDF made $9.5 Billion available to states, territories, and tribes in 2021 alone.
3. Get Free Money From the Government
Is it really free money if they’re just giving you some of your own tax dollars back? Jokes aside, check out what programs might be available at Benefits.gov.
Even if there isn’t another stimulus check coming, I found over 100 other federal, state, and local financial assistance programs.
And if you run a business or organization of any kind, you owe it to yourself to become familiar with Grants.gov. This is the official database of government grants (free money!) you can apply for.
Down Payment Assistance
Several state and federal programs offer down payment loans — and sometimes even grants — to prospective homebuyers.
If you’re in the market, it definitely makes sense to see what programs might be available in your state.
As someone who’s paid over $2,000 a month for childcare, I know firsthand kids are expensive!
Thankfully, the government has a number of income-based assistance programs to help offset the cost of childcare. Drill down to your city and state to see what may be available.
What Is Free Money?
Definitions vary widely for what’s considered “free.” For our purposes, we define free money as cash or a reward you receive:
- Without having to pay money up front, or
- For doing something you were going to do anyway.
Most of the items on this list don’t require you to make a purchase in order to receive the reward. However, some do.
For example, some items may offer a $10 sign-up bonus, but you have to make a $25 purchase in order to qualify. For those, we only consider it “free” if you were going to make a purchase anyway and the cash is an added bonus.
Keep that in mind as you decide which opportunities on this list make sense for you.
What surveys pay money?
The survey topics include ones about advertising and movie trailer effectiveness; the importance of various product and service features; variety of products in an eCommerce collection; and, perhaps the most popular, in-home product trials for user testing.
It’s important to keep in mind that participants don’t “qualify” for all surveys. Market researchers often want opinions from users who match specific demographics or who are in-market for particular products and services. If you attempt a survey that you ultimately don’t qualify for, Swagbucks will give you at least one point in its rewards program. You know what they say: “A penny for your thoughts”.
What are the best Swagbucks deals?
Here’s a round-up of some of the best deals for awesome services where you can actually make money simply by trying them out.
Hulu: Try the video streaming service for just $5.99 for 1 month and get more cash back than the cost of the trial. Watch The Handmaid’s Tale. If you like it, keep Hulu. Otherwise, there’s no obligation.
Dollar Shave Club: Test out great razors with their starter set for just five bucks. Get a clean shave and nice splash of cash that will more than cover the cost of your trial.
Bluehost: if you’ve been thinking about creating a website, now’s the time! Use Bluehost to host your site. They have hosting deals that start at $2.95/mos. And, if you use Swagbucks to sign-up, you’ll get enough cash back to more than cover the cost of your entire year of hosting.
There are always new trial offers that rotate through Swagbucks. Some are what you might consider “money-makers” like the ones listed above; others are just great deals on products and services that you might want to try. Check the website daily for “free money” offers and other great savings. Even if you don’t make a lot of money, its a fun way to test a new product.
